Quick answer

Shower hire typically costs £150 to £300 per single unit and £800 to £1,500 for a 4-bay shower trailer for a weekend. Plan 1 shower per 250 campers. Showers need water supply or bowser feed, waste-water collection, and power or gas for heating.

Showers matter the moment anyone sleeps on site: campers, crew, or multi-day traders. Unlike toilets they are infrastructure-hungry: each unit needs water in (mains or bowser), grey water out (tank or soakaway agreement), and energy for heating (LPG or a generator feed). That is why shower planning starts with the site services conversation, not the unit count.

Booking follows the services, not the headcount: shower trailers are usually ordered in the same conversation as the toilets and the generator, since all three share one access route and often one power or water feed. Leave room in that conversation for the trailer's own footprint too: a level, firm pad big enough for its wheels and steps, which is a harder ask on a soft summer field than the ground a bank of single-cubicle toilets needs.

PLANNING RATIO

Multi-day camping: about 1 shower per 250 guests keeps morning queues under half an hour.

Portable showers hire: questions organisers ask

How many showers do I need for a camping festival?

About 1 per 250 campers keeps the morning queue tolerable; 1 per 150 feels generous. A 500-camper weekend event is comfortable with a pair of 4-bay trailers, split between camping zones.

What do portable showers need on site?

Three services: water in (mains standpipe or bowser), grey-water handling (waste tank with pump-out, or an agreed soakaway), and heat (LPG bottles supplied with the trailer, or a 32A electric feed from your generator plan).

Do portable showers need to be connected to mains water?

A mains standpipe within a few metres of the trailer is the simplest, cheapest setup and is what most suppliers ask for first. Where a site has no mains access, such as a remote festival field, an IBC (a 1,000-litre bulk tank) with a pump feeds the trailer instead, usually for an extra charge on top of the hire.

How long does it take to set up a shower trailer?

The trailer itself connects quickly, often within the hour, once it is on level ground with power and a water source close by. What actually takes the time is the site prep around it: running a water line or positioning the bowser, cabling the power feed, and giving the waste tank room for the pump-out lorry to reach it. Agree those details with the delivery crew ahead of the day rather than on it.

Do shower trailers need their own generator?

Only the electric-heated ones: a gas trailer runs its heating from the LPG bottles supplied with it and needs just a small feed for lights and pumps, while an electric trailer wants a dedicated 32A supply of its own. Either way, put the trailer on the same generator load list as the rest of the site rather than assuming a spare socket will do.
