First dance on a white starlit dance floor inside a lined wedding marquee
Quick answer

Dance floor hire typically costs £250 to £450 for a 12ft × 12ft parquet floor and £400 to £800 for LED or white starlit floors, delivered and fitted. Size on 0.2 sqm per invited guest: a 100-guest party suits a 4m × 5m floor.

Nobody remembers the dance floor when it is right and nobody forgets when it is wrong: too small and it is elbows, too large and it looks empty in photos. The working ratio is about a third of guests dancing at any one time, each needing half a square metre.

Parquet and boarded oak suit marquees and barns; black-and-white checker reads retro; LED and starlit floors carry the evening in venues with low light. Outdoor-rated interlocking floors exist for open-air dancing, but they still want a level base and a dry-weather plan.

PLANNING RATIO

Allow about 0.2 sqm of dance floor per invited guest: a third of guests dance at once, at roughly 0.5 sqm each.

Dance floors hire: questions organisers ask

What size dance floor do I need for 100 guests?

Around 20 sqm: a 4m × 5m or 15ft × 15ft floor. The rule of thumb is 0.2 sqm per invited guest, since about a third of the room dances at once. Round up if your crowd skews young or the band is good.

Can you put a dance floor on grass?

Not directly: every panel floor needs a firm, level, dry base. In a marquee that means boarded flooring underneath. For truly open-air dancing, hire an outdoor-rated interlocking system on levelled ground and have a wet-weather fallback.

How much does LED dance floor hire cost?

Typically £400 to £800 for a 12ft × 12ft white starlit or colour-change LED floor including delivery, fitting and a controller. Larger 20ft systems for big weddings run £700 to £1,200.
